Discipline

Goal-setting is important in life, but goal-setting means nothing unless we set out to take action to accomplish our goals. It is discipline that provides structure for our actions. Without discipline, action becomes inaction and goals are not achieved.

Discipline is hard, because it is contrary to what we might otherwise be inclined to do. We would love to eat all we want, but we need to exercise discipline in controlling our diets. We would love to lie on the couch all day, but we need discipline to properly exercise.

And just as discipline is essential to good health, through proper diet and exercise, discipline is essential to so many other aspects of life. Discipline is essential to the study habits of the serious student. Discipline is essential to the entrepreneur who envisions a new business. Discipline is essential to the person who is a caregiver to an aging parent.

Discipline is a function of planning, organization, routine and self-accountability. None of it is pretty, but all of it is essential to achieve the goal and the greater good.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.
